Midnight Sun Peonies, Inc.

Midnight Sun Peonies is owned and operated by husband and wife team Sue Kent and Clay Sullivan.

We are both long-time geologists whose careers have taken us from mineral exploration to environmental consulting and now to peony farming! We have a 40-acre farm located near Sterling Alaska which is mostly in hay but slowly being converted to peony production. We started growing peonies as an experiment but it has rapidly become a quite passion and a new avocation.

We sold our first peonies last year (2011) although (our production was quite small) to get a feel for post-harvest handling and packaging. We also started building our packhouse facilities last year and will have significantly improved cooling and packing facilities this year. We are continuing to expand production each year as our plants grow and mature, as we continue to enlarge our fields, and as we enhance our handling facilities and processes.

We love to experiment (its the scientist in us) so we have more than 60 varieties in small quantities that are being tested for their suitability to grow in our rather severe Alaska winter climate and to produce superior cut flowers. Our goal is to have a broad assortment of high-quality peonies that our customers can use to create beautiful bouquets and arrangements. We will have peonies ranging from the familiar old-fashioned fragrant peonies that we all know and love to the newer hybrid peonies with their beautiful colors to peonies with whimsical shapes and coloring. Whatever your peony passion, we're certain we can help you achieve it!
